Treating Selective Mutism

Selective Mutism is an anxiety disorder characterized by the inability to speak in certain social situations, despite the ability to speak in other settings. People with selective mutism may be able to speak comfortably with family members or close friends but may refuse to speak in other social settings. The disorder is believed to be related to a combination of genetic, environmental, and developmental factors, and it often co-occurs with other anxiety disorders.
